Garnet's baby Arial, from her second litter, was sold to Scotia Doodles and has had a couple litters there, meaning Garnet, age 6 1/2, is a grandma too!

Galena’s baby Kiera was sold to Barksdale Labradoodles in Mississippi and has had a couple litters for them, so Galena, age 5, is also a grandma.

Phoenix’s boy Cumin was sire to Galena’s third litter, so Phoenix, age 4, is paternal grandma to those six babies (and Amore is their maternal grandma)!

Topaz, age 4, is grandma to Harmony’s puppies-to-be, which are expected to arrive in mid-June!

And Amore, age 8, mom to Garnet, Galena and Topaz, is obviously Grandma to all their puppies and great-grandmas to all their grand-puppiws!

No flowers or chocolate for these mamas - but we'll give ours lots of snuggles and a good long walk!

Happy birthday Garnet, Tory, Boomer and Diamond Rusty!

This was our very first litter back in 2009 – SIX years old now. Yikes!

Garnet herself is a grandma already. She was the first breeder we kept and produced two nice litters for us before taking early retirement. Tory ended up in Vancouver, Boomer lives in Winnipeg, and Rusty is the closest besides Garnet, in northwest Quebec. Given their great distances, Garnet is the only one we’ve really kept in touch with, and even she is not as frequent a visitor now that she’s not having pups any more.

Garnet is mom to Lyra, Cassie, Ziggy, Gatsby, Corona, Lily, Scarlett, Ariel, Leo, Galaxy, and Penelope, and grandma to I don’t know how many of Ariel’s puppies. She lives with four human siblings, a mom dad and cat in Cornwall, where she is a happy and well-loved dog.

Announcing our next litter!

DragonRam Doodles is expecting our next litter of puppies to be born in late November!

Dam: DragonRam Garnet, age 2

Garnet is our petite black beauty, a very good-looking fine-boned girl who weighs in at 12 lbs and stands about 13” at the shoulder. She lives with her Guardian Family in Cornwall, Ontario. She loves to play Frisbee and snuggle with her dad and kids.

Sire: Springville American Idol of Puppy Love Labradoodles, age 2

Idol is a stocky boy with a deep red coat who stands 15” at the shoulder and weighs a bit over 20 lbs. He is owned by Puppy Love Labradoodles in southern Alberta, where he lives with a Guardian Family.

Garnet and Idol honeymooned on 29 September. Seeing as my vet wasn’t available to do the specialized trans-cervical insemination for us, and no other vet in Ottawa has the equipment or training, Garnet hopped a plane to Calgary on the 28^th and returned to Ottawa on 3 October. So it was a real honeymoon (though I’m told Garnet wasn’t the most receptive of brides, but Idol still accomplished the job).

We are expecting about half the puppies in this litter to be in shades of cream, apricot, or red and half to be black. Garnet’s last litter had 5 puppies and we are hoping for a similar number this time. We expect to do an ultrasound in early November to confirm pregnancy and get an estimate as to number, with an x-ray in late November to firm up the puppy count.

With 9 weeks’ gestation, the puppies are expected to arrive sometime between 27 November and 1 December. They will be ready to go to their new homes around 3 February 2012.

Update on Garnet

Garnet arrived at our house from her Guardian Home yesterday, looking plump and well-rounded. She is getting used to being here again with Mama Momo and our two lively kids (instead of the four lively kids she has at home!).


My daughter said she thinks Garnet is looking more settled and motherly. Good imagination, kiddo! But she still didn't want to stand still for us to take her temperature. We'll try again  tomorrow!!

We will be taking Garnet for her puppy count x-ray on Friday late afternoon and will report our findings shortly thereafter. We are sure hoping for at least the 4 or 5 seen on the ultrasound!

Garnet is due on Victoria Day Monday, May 23, so we won’t be going very far from home over the long weekend. Playing in the nearby fields and forest with Garnet and Amore, and perhaps taking a fishing trip to the canal, will be our main long weekend activities, while watching for signs of imminent delivery.

Successful mating of Garnet

On Wednesday we took Garnet to the vet's for AI. She is quite a wiggler, so we sedated her somewhat to do the procedure, and the little gal fell sound asleep halfway through! The procedure went well with no issues, the semen was high quality, and she was right at her peak fertility, so we are expecting a good litter from this mating! They puppies will be due around May 24 and ready to go to their new homes around July 26.
