Happy belated fourth birthday to Galena's first litter!

Galena’s first litter was born on 29 January 2013. She had six beautiful babes:
  • Oscar Apollo, Cupcake Kiera, Hershey Crispin, Tara Firefly, Matilda Nubia, and Kacey Lunette

Matilda
Kiera is now a breeding mama with Barksdale Labradoodles in Mississippi.
Kacey lives in Toronto, while the other four live here in Ottawa. We see Matilda fairly regularly at our Doodle Romps (when her family isn’t travelling) – she looks just like her mama! We wish you all a happy belated birthday (four years and two months today!). Hope you are enjoying the (almost) spring!

Happy birthday to Galena's first puppies

It's hard to believe, but Galena's first litter of puppies is turning four today!! How time does fly!

Cupcake Kiera, Tara Firefly, Kacey Lunette, Hershey Crispin, Oscar Apollo and Matilda Nubia were born on a Thursday afternoon in January 2013, Galean's first litter when she was not quite two years old. As I recall, she had an easy and quiet birthing experience and settled right in to the job of mamahood.

Of these six puppies, Kacey Lunette is now living in Toronto, Cupcake Kiera went to be a breeding mama for Barksdale Labradoodles in Mississippi, and the other four remained here in Ottawa. We see Matilda fairly regularly and have also had the good fortune to see Hershey, Tara and Oscar from time to time.

Happy fourth birthday to all of you!!

Happy birthday Matilda, Hershey, Tara, Oscar, Kacey & Cupcake Kiera

Galena’s first litter turns THREE today!

These pups were born on a cold day at the end of January, but by the time they went home at the end of March/early April the weather was warm and spring was definitely on its way! We use book characters for the names we give Galena’s pups. For this litter the names came from a variety of sources so there’s no one book or series I can point to. Two of the names came from The Other Half of My Heat, a book about twin girls one of whom is black like their mom (Kiera) and the other white like their dad (Lunette). Two come from the Roman Mysteries series (Apollo and Nubia), one from Urchin of the Riding Stars (Crispin), and one from a horse series my daughter liked (Firefly). The six pups are:
Kacey Lunette
Cupcake Kiera
Tara Firefly
Hershey Crispin
Oscar Apollo
Matilda Nubia

Matilda, a chocolate beauty, is a regular Doodle Romp attendee. Hershey has joined us a couple of times - the first time when Rusty Rococo (from Topaz’s first litter) joined the family. Apollo and Tara also live nearby and have joined us once or twice. Kacey lives in Toronto and Kiera joined Barksdale Labradoodles in in Mississippi, where she had her first litter of just two pups in the fall of 2014.

Happy third birthday!
Have a great winter playing in the snow.

Happy birthday Nellie, Maggie, Delilah, Angel, Hazel, Baloo, Maui and Bolt

Galena’s second litter turns TWO today!

I’m not sure if it’s because this was our largest litter, at eight puppies, but I’ve always had the hardest time remembering all of them. We use book characters for the names we give Galena’s pups, and almost all of these pups also have names their owners gave them, so having to remember double names is also a challenge! For this litter the names all came from the Roman Mysteries series of children’s books that we were reading at the time. Here they all are (new name + book character name):
Nellie Serena
Holly Delilah (I think I’ve got that right)
Maggie Clio
Baloo Lukos
Hazel (I think she stayed Hazel)
Bolt Skylax
Ophelia Angel
Maui Tigris

There was quite a range in sizes for these pups. By the time they went home at age 3 months, Lukos, Skylax and especially Tigris were quite large, well over 10 lbs, while little Angel was barely half that size. For whatever reason, Angel didn’t find a home until she was 9 months old, but we loved her to bits. She was always very quiet and unassuming, other than wreaking havoc on her favourit chew toy – my dirty underwear… (KIDS!! Close the door to my closet! Harrumph.)

We see Nellie and Angel fairly regularly at Doodle Romps, and Maggie and Bolt have joined us a few times, too. Baloo lives in Montreal and Maui in Washington DC, so those two are Far Away. We keep hoping that Hazel and Holly might join us at a romp, too, but so far they’ve always had other engagements.

Happy second birthday!
Have a great fall romping in all the lovely leaves.

Good-bye Ophelia Angel!

Ophelia Angel, that last puppy from Galena's August 2013 litter, finally found her forever family home over the May long weekend. A wonderful family with 2 kids was looking to get a dog, had been taking care of a friend's Labradoodle and fallen in lvoe with the breed, but didn't think they wanted to handle the more intense needs of a young puppy. The answer? Ophelia, aged 9 months!!

She went home to them this Thursday evening, May 29 - her 9-month-iversary. We wish her a happy and fun-filled life and hope to see her again at our future Doodle Romps. I will miss her most, I think, as she was my bed-warmer and personal toe-licker, but the kids will be happy not to have to pay so much attention to putting shoes away to avoid chewing...

Good-bye Opheilia Angel, we love you! See you soon, we hope!

Last Phoenix pup left - Sensitive, Cautious,Smart - and 8-month-old pup

Caramel boy

We have just one pup left from Phoenix's litter. He is the caramel boy with a brown nose. He is the biggest of the pups, and we expect him to mature to close to 30 lbs (maybe even a tad over - we'll see!) and around 17" at the shoulder

This is the description of him from the puppy temperament evaluation done when he was 7 weeks old:
This puppy is a gentle and non-confrontational puppy. He becomes very nervous in new situations and will attempt to remove himself and seek a ‘safe’ place to hide. He will bond strongly to his humans, learn to trust them and look to them for guidance. It will be important to encourage his confidence and not reward his insecurities. This puppy is excellent at reading body language and will need a soft approach to training. He is intelligent and food motivated, making him easily trainable, He will vocalize his emotions, be it excited and happy or uncertain and frustrated. Building his confidence and providing reliable rules and structure will help minimize his emotional extremes. Provide chew articles and encourage chewing as an outlet. This puppy will do well in a family setting as long as he is provided with regular rest periods and spacial respect.

Ophelia Angel

In addition, little Ophelia Angel, our 8-month old from Galen'as August litter, is stil pining for her forever family. She is almost all white with pale caramel spots on her back and ears. She currently weighs 13 lbs and should gain a few more, maxing out at around 16 or so and 14-15" at the shoulder.

Here is a description of this lovely girl:
QUIET, GENTLE, ATTENTIVE
Ophelia is a friendly puppy who looks to her humans for affection, and guidance. She is extremely quiet and patient, and will only vocalize when in need or when playing with other dogs. She will be happy when she has plenty of chew articles to keep her occupied, or plenty of playtime with her friends. Ophelia is very comfortable with other dogs but not dominant. She is confident in new siutations, particularly if she has the support of her humans. She will bond strongly with her people. Ophelia will do well in a family situation where the household is not so busy that she gets overlooked. She will be equally happy to have another dog to play with or to have her people all to herself.

If either of these sounds like the puppy for you, contact us at 613-552-3066 or e-mail roma@dragonramdoodles.com. Both of these puppies are friendly and attentive and will make some family very happy!

Now we are six!

We would like to wish
a very happy (belated) birthday
to our beloved Mama Momo,
aka Amore, the Valentine’s girl!

We celebrated her birthday by taking her, Phoenix, and grand-pup Ophelia to Wag, a Posh Shop for Pampered Pets located not too far from home. In addition to the usual doggie (and kitty) gear, they offer doggy treats and human drinks and some simple desserts. Being Valentine’s Day, the place was quite busy with other dogs, humans, and a musician setting the mood. I’m not sure Mo actually like the evening that much, as we were seated right next to the musician and it was a bit loud for her. But she did enjoy her doggy treat and having some lap-time with her people.

Galena’s first pups also celebrated
their first birthday recently
= January 29th to be exact. I sent them all an individual e-card (hope you received it!) but would like to acknowledge them all here on the blog as well.

Cupcake Kiera, the chocolate parti, is a breeding prospect at Barksdale Labradoodles in Mississippi. The three solid chocolates, Hershey-Crispin, Apollo-Oscar, and Matilda-Nubia, all live in Ottawa, as does one of the caramel girls, Tara-Firefly. Sister Kacey-Lunette moved to Toronto, where she enjoys life with her two girls and mom and dad.

All the best to the six of you – many happy springs to come!

We still have puppies available!

Update on 25 November: Three of our puppies have gone to their new forever families, and two have been reserved, so we now have three still waiting for adoption!

Sweet little girl - avalable
This sweet girl is the tiniest of the litter and will mature to about 15-18 lbs. She is very quiet and calm and absolutely adores snuggling with her people. She play hard, though when her big brothers get a bit rough she'll duck out of the play. She has been on several outdor adventures and enjoys playing in the grass and leaves (or snow! - but be sure not to lose her as she blends in!) She is mostly white with a few small caramel marks on her back. She will be happy in a family with children (4+) or a couple or single who have lots of love to give, preferably where she is not alone too much as she has lots of love to give. We think she's adorable!

Big active boy - available
(yellow collar)
This boy is a big fella who will mature to 24-28 lbs once fully grown. He is very active and playful and prefers to be with people than on his own. He lets you know when he wants attention or needs somethings, and is very people oriented. He will do best in a family where at least one person is home most of the time so he can enjoy their company as much as possible. Children (6+) will be welcome (especialy if they want to play!) but not required.

Active chocolate girl - available
This chocolate girl is a fairly active pup who loves to run, play, pounce, give kisses, and snuggle. She is generaly quiet and happy and is happy playing with her siblings, with her people, or just exploring on her own. She wil mature to about 18-22 lbs. Her dark chocolate coat is likely to fade as she gets older an turn a striking silver-cafe just like her mama. She is friendly and inquisitive and quite confident. She will do well in an active family with or without children and should be okay in a working family as long as she gets plenty of attention when her people are home.

Happy caramel girl - RESERVED
This girl is quite active but also a good listener and very friendly. She likes to play tug, ball, or pounce with her sibs. She is a pretty caramel colour that should not fade much (except in the sun!) with a cute white blaze on her forehead. She is quiet, happy, and a hard player. She will mature to about 18-22 lbs. She will do well in a family that is active and spends time playing outdoors, with or without children.

Big cuddly boy-RESERVED!
(black collar)

This boy is a big fella who will mature to about 24-28 lbs. He loves being wit people and is always one of the first to come running when we enter the puppy nook. He plays rowdy with is sibs and eagerly plays tug with his people. He is relatively quiet and moderately active. He will do well in a family where there at least one person is home most of the day, as he would be too lonely on his own for long stretches. A family with or without childen will be fine, as long as he gets plenty of attention and play time.

Big calm boy - GONE HOME!!
(Black diamond collar)
This is another big (but not quite so big) boy who will mature to 22-26 lbs when full grown. He is fairly quiet and laid-back, independent but snuggly, inquisitive but attentive to his people. He plays hard, runs fast, and sleeps well! This boy loves to snuggle but is not demanding of attention. He is a happy, content fella who will do well in a family with children (4+) or with a single or couple who are home eenings and weekends to spend time with him.
