We are still waiting for Galena to go into heat to breed her for our next litter. We were expecting it by mid-June, but so far no signs, so it will likely be early July before she is bred. That will give us pups in early September, ready for their new homes in early November. While the weather is starting to get cold, it’s still early enough to enjoy fine fall days outdoors with your little dood.
In other news, Amore, the matriarch of the clan, is now officially retired. She was spayed on June 10 and will henceforth be “just” our lovely family pet. She is starting to show her age a little bit – going grey in the tail! – and definitely took longer to recuperate from the spay surgery than the puppies do (though she also had some dental work done). But she is now pretty much back to her usual active and loving self.
Phoenix, the young and rambunctious golden girl, will be the next Mama in the household, though we don’t expect to breed her until early 2014 when she is approaching two years of age.
Watch this space for news of Galena’s mating within (we hope!) the next month.
